Aim

Strengthen the existing primary health care system through:

resourcing of supplies

♦ training of village health volunteers

Principle

Provide equitable, comprehensive and integrated access to primary health care to the most disadvantaged communities

Goal: Improved access to equitable & comprehensive health care by strengthening primary health care system through resourcing, staff upskilling, and village health volunteer training
Objectives: 1. To provide upskilling of primary health care workers 2. To work with communities to train village health volunteers (VHVs) 3. To source & resource rural health facilities with equipment & supplies 4. To work with primary health care & stakeholders to improve resources
Outputs: 1.1 Advocacy / source volunteer health workers (doctors, nurses, midwives, etc.) from Australia to Hela Provincial Hospital 2.1 Work with health workers in rural health facilities to raise awareness about VHV program 3.1 Advocacy, resourcing equipment & supplies from Australia 4.1 Obtain endorsement from policy agencies
1.2 Establish partnership with stakeholders within PNG primary health care system 2.2 Community to identify and recruit VHV trainees 3.2 Establish shipment logistics infrastructure 4.2 Communication pathway with health facilities
1.3 Establish on the job training manual for volunteers to use in their training sessions 2.3 Establish VHV training manual 3.3 Ongoing budget/fundraising 4.3 Local NGO/CBO facilitate volunteer support
1.4 Establish partnership with Fulcrum Aid, IDFPNG, PNG/Australia stakeholders 2.4 Establish safe birthing units in communities
1.5 Feasibility study, information management and dissemination including health facility itinerary 2.5 Mobilise training resources & community birthing units
2.6 Conduct training
2.7 Establish VHV supervision, monitoring and follow up plan

 

Outcomes

1. Facilitated a 20ft container with donated biomedical, health care, education and earthquake supplies from South Australia to Hela Province

1. Transfer of old RAH hospital equipment to PNG
